Simple, sweet, and placating. Good god, I didn’t realize that’s all I need at the moment, and that’s just what Peach Kelli Pop delivers with her recent Lucky Star. The four-song EP takes a gentler road akin to the slower moments on 2018’s Gentle Leader, but boasting a similarly high caliber of songwriting. I think a lot of us tend to overuse the term “power pop” to describe underground music, but “Stupid Girl” easily fits that description. “Cut Me Off,” meanwhile, recalls the indie days of yore but with a rawer edge and a killer vocal melody. Combined with the harmonious, Beatlesque “Close to You” and the simple guitar sendoff of “Sing and Pretty”, the EP does its job handily, providing some comfort as everything falls apart. Inject this straight into my veins.

Recommended for warm bedsheets.
